I had never cried reading a sex scene before but here we are

I think these characters taught me a valuable lesson on life. There’s a lot of shit to shovel!

This was a quick and mostly enjoyable read, even for someone such as myself.......who hates romance novels with a passion and only reads them when I need to fill a challenge spot. The characters were likable, Hartley didn't suffer from your usual he-man raging misogynistic alpha male bullshit, and the relationship was a slow burn instead of insta-love.

Here are my two complaints:

1) I lost count of how many times Corey said "Hell and damn" in reference to Hartley making her ~~~feel feelings~~~. It was like every other paragraph and it was obnoxious as hell.

2) Her inner "hope fairy" was very reminiscent of the uh... "inner goddess". Ya know? So. Not a fan.

I doubt I'll enjoy the next book as much because I'm mainly in this for Corey/Hartley but we'll give it a shot.

Another book that I have no idea why I waited to listen to. Sarina did an amazing job writing about a disabled heroine. We need more books like this! It wasn’t easy for Corey learning how to live without being able to run & play hockey like she could before accident. Going away to college was a big step for her. Having Adam Hartley live next door was the blessing she needed. Bravo to Adam for seeing past her disability. Loved their sweet story. Excellent narration by Saskia Maarleveld & Nick Poedhl.

Honestly, good. Just nothing super interesting I guess but it was a nice pleasant read.

Corey starts her freshman year – in a wheelchair. Put in a dorm away from all the other freshmen with her new roomie, she befriends Hartley, her hockey playing neighbor healing from a broken leg.

Corey is adjusting her dreams and plans from having her eyes set on hockey to figuring out life in a wheelchair so damn strong. She's fiercely independent and tough and – aside from some tough breaks – handles the hand she was dealt in an inspiring way. She's gaining in confidence, putting herself outside of her comfort zone to find her new way.

Watching Corey and Hartley form a friendship over adventurous trips to non-accessible dining halls, their nights playing Real Stixs and hanging out was just so damn adorable and relatable. Corey is falling for him, and does not know how to act on it based somewhat on her insecurities and a lot on the fact Hartley has a long distance girlfriend. Add to that that Hartley is trying to figure out what is important to him, and you have a wonderful combination of characters that grow both together as well as independently.

I had some issues with Hartley and his decisions in some aspects, especially regarding his relationship with Stacia, but it wasn't too bad, more like the typical college boy behaviour that has me rolling my eyes a bit and wanting to smack him. I do feel kind of bad for not being put off based on the fact that Hartley cheats on Stacia, but more with Hartley's general behaviour towards his spoiled rich girlfriend.

I have absolutely no knowledge or experience with the kind of injuries Corey suffers from, therefore I can't say anything about the accuracy of Corey's progress regarding her physical as well as psychological health. I felt as if it was done really well and comprehensible, and that Sarina Bowen put in enough research with this. Please correct me if I'm wrong!

Overall, this is a really cute NA novel with hockey, a slowly developing relationship and a great character growth. 100% recommendation for everyone looking for something sweet with some angst.

I didn't mind this book, but it wasn't one of my favourite Sarina books. I liked Corey - she's been through a lot and is still finding herself and dealing with everything. Hartley I liked, but I think I was just thrown off because of the whole Stacia thing, even though the reasoning comes out later in the book. I loved the secondary characters like Bridger and Dana and I will be keen to read Bridger's book. The ending of this one was quite good with some things being resolved which was quite nice.

So impressed by this book. I was nervous at first when I found out the heroine was permanently disabled. I wanted to read a story about someone overcoming their disability and finding a newness to life that helped them see they were larger than their disability. Bowen gave me exactly what I hoped for. Corey learns to adapt and finds new ways for her personality to shine through. And I was SO happy when Hartley finally woke up to what was in front of his face.

Cannot wait to read more of this series.

Che carino!!
