I just really liked this. Great pairing, great secondary characters, college setting, all I need.

*3 stars*

I have read three other books in this series and this one just felt so weak to me? First of all, the dual POV felt completely unnecessary. This was Cory's book, and the chapters that weren't in her POV felt tacked on. Also, it just was - boring, I guess.

Not....bad? But I expected more

3.5! Would've gone for 4 if not for the one peeve I mentioned in my status updates. Otherwise, short and sweet! Though while reading it, I felt strangely old, even though I'm about their ages. Must be because I'm used to reading about older characters.

3 1/2 Stars

Corey grew up on the ice and hockey was her life...even receiving a scholarship to attend college. One unlikely day, she has an accident and suffers a spinal cord injury. Not able to probably ever be on the ice again, she decides to continue on to college wheelchair bound. When she arrives, she meets hockey star Adam Hartley, who's staying across the hall in the handicap accessible area of the dorms, as he has just broken his leg and will be on crutches for some time.

These two form a special bond over late nights playing hockey video games and trying to maneuver the hundred year old campus together...that's not exactly 100% handicap accessible. They can eat in some cafeterias but not others. Classes on the first floor are easier than others on upper levels, etc. I think the author did a great job of showing the every day challenges of someone confined to a wheel chair or crutches/braces. There's the obvious physical challenges of stairs and needing help with certain things when you venture off on your own, but there's also the emotional side of living with a disability.

Although Corey has a very positive outlook on life, she used to be this fit, athletic, beautiful girl. Now confined to a wheelchair, she's unsure that she's even seen as a girl vs. a person in a wheelchair. This book explores that quite a bit as she falls for Hartley and they begin to explore a relationship more than friends. There are even some pretty funny scenes as they explore each other sexually, as she's unsure of what she's capable of or what she'll be able to feel since her accident.

This is a cute story and I love that Hartley saw her for who she truly was and showed her that although she's not as perfect as she once thought she was, she's still pretty darn good at just about everything.

Her eyes blinked against exhaustion, and I wondered if she might cry. But not Corey. Not my blue-eyed fighter, the girl who dreamed of skating every night, but always had something positive to say. She humbled me every fucking day.

“That’s the weirdest, most romantic story I’ve ever heard. He talked you into fooling around, so you could find out if you can…?” I nodded. “…and it worked?” My face was getting hot.
“Did it ever.”

“I’m sorry I ruined your evening.”
“You couldn’t ever.”

“I was perfect,” I said. “And I didn’t even know.”
“No,” he whispered into my ear. “No, no. Perfect isn’t real.” I took a deep, shaky breath, and the feel of his strong arms around me began to feel steadying.
“There’s no more perfect, Callahan. Now there’s only really damned good.”

“Hartley? I…I can’t just be a hookup. Maybe some girls can pull that off, but…” He put two fingers over my lips.
“You have me, Callahan.” His hand slid to cup my cheek, and I leaned into its warmth.
“You’re the first person I want to talk to in the morning, and the last thing I want to see at night.”

Hartley dropped his mouth to my ear, whispering, “I’m sorry it took me so long.”

“You need to tell me what you want,” he whispered, tucking a strand of my hair behind my ear.
“I don’t know what you’re ready for.”
“I want you to…” I broke off, because it was so hard to say. “I want everything. I want you to be the same with me that you were with other girls.”
“But it’s not the same with you.” My heart faltered.
“Why?”
“Because, Callahan.” The brown eyes came closer.
“I never loved anyone the way I love you.”

“I just wish I could give you the original me. Not the broken one.” He closed his eyes and gave his head a shake.
“There’s only one Callahan, the one who removed my head from my ass. I have her already.”

This book got more charming and delightful the further into it I got. I'm usually fine rounding star ratings to the nearest whole star, but this could use a 4.5.

I'm so glad I picked up this series! I'm in love with this whole world and can't wait to dive into book 2 right now!
