This book tries to do some interesting things but it is honestly just a slog to read. While I appreciate the purpose of switching between the plural and singular POVs, it means that none of the individual characters are fleshed out enough to care about. That would be a fine thing to sacrifice given the point of the collective vs the individual, but I really didn’t care about the girls as a collective either. I think Tate had some good ideas that she just didn’t execute very well. A lot of the events of the story are also too ambiguous to be interesting. There’s leaving things up to the imagination and there’s just not telling a coherent story.
