Carl centric storyline.

I really dislike Carl so a Carl centric volume... *groans* I wanted more action from the main characters but with their community they've built up... I don't think it's going away anytime soon so this must be just more build up for something down the ways...

Carl Grimes is grown up now, but we're painfully reminded that he's still a young person susceptible to making mistakes. His judgment is easily clouded and his decisions could lead to drastic changes at the Hilltop.

There are also rumblings about Maggie's leadership and she has tough choices to make for the sake of her personal relationships and the bigger community.

While this isn't the best storyline of the series, it's interesting to see how the new world is progressing and how the new threat shows the scope of its power. Once again, The Walking Dead makes for excellent cover-to-cover reading.

In the first few volumes I didn't fully understand the point of having it all in black and white but, especially with this volume, I both understood and appreciated it. The black and white art work allows there to be a feeling of distance between the reader in the present and the characters surviving years into the zombie apocalypse. What makes the Walking Dead unique is that it gives insight into the "what now?" at the end of the typical apocalypse film. This particular volume is even further down the road, years since the first onset. I appreciated that there was a time gap, allowing the characters, especially the younger ones, time to age and mature. Because Rick's group has grown so much, the story jumps around allowing the reader to see into what everyone is doing, building on the suspense of when shit finally hits the fan (as it always does). Really enjoyed this volume and I look forward to the future issues.

Growing up is especially hard to do the walker era. Carl wants to learn a trade in the communities being rebuilt which means moving away from understandably overly protective Rick. Of course, being Carl, things do not go smoothly. More is learned about the cliffhanger in the previous volume as some new attackers have a 'come to Jesus' experience. My rating is 4 stars as other characters also have their struggles.

Lucky Carl

I really like the direction that TWD is going.
Another group trying to survive. Consequences. Idiocy from one of former leaders.

More like 4.5 stars.
Some annoying and weird moments, but overall, very interesting and suspenseful.
I really grew to love this series.
