I know it’s an allegory to Russia, but I’ve watched a lot of cult documentaries and it seems to apply to a lot of that too.

it's important to remember while reading this book that george orwell went to catalonia to help the socialists in the spanish civil war. he said, and i quote:

"every line of serious work that i have written since 1936 has been written, directly or indirectly, against totalitarianism and for democratic socialism, as i understand it."

he literally said the way men exploit animals is the way the rich exploit the proletariat. what's not clicking.

simply genius, stunningly dystopian, i have not recovered. incredible working of allegory within the plot couples with witty characterisation- it was such a thought-provoking read from the beginning to the end. this is my first work of orwell that i listened as an audiobook, and oh my, it was so worth it.
