I've been on a negative utopia kick. Talk about a fun, quick, but also enlightening read. Orwell does a fantastic job, playing out the follies of political rulers in the world's past and present.

- Themes of manipulation, propaganda, and oppression are so much more impactful when they are placed in the context of individuals.
- While I understand 1984’s purpose and think it’s a necessary piece to explore the importance of language and information in subduing a population, I think Animal Farm is the best place to start because it’s relatively easy to comprehend but just as effective in relaying these themes.

I read 1984 first. Animal Farm touches on many of the same ideas. But, it's so short and quick-paced, it's hard to really feel invested in the story.
