I actually enjoyed this until the whole picking Devlan thing at the end.
If her relationship with Kade was not the one, it would have been better for her to go on her own.
I liked that the study books focus on Yelena. Everyone else, including Valek, is a side character. She is the focus. So it would have been fine for it to end with Opal finding her purpose.

Valek is morally grey but he stopped Yelena from being executed, trained her and protected her. He never tortured her, he never tricked her into sleeping with him.

I also found it grating that Devlan talks about admiring Opal’s strength when she was 14! It just highlighted the horrible power dynamic. Her ending up with him did not feel empowering at all.

I still love the world that was built and the dynamic of the other characters which is why it’s 3 stars.

I’m looking forward to delving back into Yelena’s world.

Unpopular opinion, I honestly enjoyed who Opal ends up with. I mean being completely honest she experienced the same as he did when she had stuff to still live for. Imagine going through that and having nothing, you’d do anything.

I honestly love that they ended as a happy family of 4 and she is finally able to be happy. Can’t stand Kade anymore, I really enjoyed this series!!!

I liked it , but there's only so many times a person can get kidnapped or nearly killed before things just start becoming ridiculous.

The pace was fast - once he action started, there wasn't much room to breath before something was revealed or Opal was off somewhere, doing something else. After a while, I just gave up on trying to keep track of every new discovery made about Opal's immunity and her relationship with glass. I personally don't find Opal's personality interesting. What make the series work was the fast pace, the world and seeing how magic affects society, and the other characters.

I wasn't surprised by Opal's choice at the end - I'd suspected since the first book, when Opal immediately notices the brightness of his eyes, during an attack. I do wish the ending was longer. Much of this series talked about the effects of Opal's glass magic on society and commerce. I completely expected to see everyone, including Yelena and the Councilor dealing with the aftermath of the events in this book. (And there are a lot of them. Seems like Sitia has been dealing with quite a few massive changes lately!) Why the ending became focused on Opal's mother, I don't understand.

I'm rather intrigued by Teegan and Reema though. I hope the next series is about the two of them.

I cannot believe that Opal ended up with the man who tortured her six years ago, had a hand in her sister's death, who raped and tortured her again just two years ago! Seriously?

Well... that was creepy, and not at all in a good way. Any entertainment the plot offered was mostly undone by the romantic plot line with Devlen. I consider myself pretty open-minded, but romanticizing a woman falling in love with a man whose LEAST abusive crime against her was rape... I mean, in previous books, he helped the guy who murdered her sister! He kidnapped her! TORTURED her... Like actual military-grade torture. And great, he got off the magic voodoo drugs that "made" him do those things and got reformed. Her forgiveness of him is admirable, if far-fetched, to be honest (did I mention the murder of her sister and weeks of horrific torture?). But romantic and sexual love? Seriously? If I thought the author was really going to go there, I would have stopped reading, but I didn't think she would really go through with that plot point. I figured it was some clumsy attempt at an exploration of forgiveness and the relationship between abusers and victims. I really didn't think she'd actually go there. Ugh, I feel disgusted.

As much as I really liked Spy Glass, I think it's my least favorite book in the series. Opal's powers are gone, and she now has to adjust to life without them. There is a way for her to regain her powers, through some of her blood that's been stolen. And blood magic.

Dang blood magic. There really is no escaping it, is there?

She does go off on her own to figure things out, and with the help of Valek- plus a few others- she gets her blood back in a totally interesting way. I was not expecting that at all. I liked that Opal learned who she could trust, and that she has a really good friend in Valek. I really liked seeing him without Yelena (although I like them together too) because I feel like we get a slightly different side of him.

I was quite surprised by the romance. Not completely surprised, because it really was headed towards a Devlen/Opal relationship, and not the Kade/Opal relationship. Even though Kade and Opal wouldn't have worked as a couple in the long-run, part of me still likes them as a couple a lot more than Devlen and Opal.

I really liked Spy Glass, but I can't, for the life of me, pinpoint why I'm not completely in love with it. Maybe it's because I love how Opal uses magic so much that her without it was hard to get used to. It's a really good end to the series, but I just had a harder time getting into it, and for reasons unknown to me, I just didn't like Opal as much in this one.

To be honest, I really liked it, and I have no clue why...I just do.

Final Thoughts: I really liked Spy Glass but can't pinpoint the reasons why I like it. However, Opal without her magic for a good chunk of the book was a little strange. I just couldn't get into it the way I got into the first two books. Spy Glass gets 4 stars.
