Really glad I picked this up! This book made me feel seen and was a really kind approach to giving dating and relationship advice. A lot of modern dating advice doesn’t resonate with me and makes me feel ashamed of my anxiety, so this was really refreshing. I didn’t mind the hyper-conversational, peppy tone of the book because I am a huge fan of Allison/the JBU podcast, but I can understand why other people wouldn’t like that.

This is more of a me problem, but I think this book was more geared towards folks in new relationships than it was towards chronically single girlies like me. It gave me lots to think about, and I can see myself returning to this book when I do enter my next relationship. The chapter about dating productively was unfortunately a let down—it didn’t teach me anything I didn’t already know from experience and was filled with cliché modern dating advice I hear all the time. Lots of helpful info for dating newbies, but not so much for those of us who have been around the block a few times.

I have never felt so seen and validated by a book. Allison touched on a little bit of everything when it comes to relationships and I found that some of her advice was applicable to other aspects of my life. She also provides countless examples and perspectives that showed me how my mental illness can manifest in negative ways or how certain behaviors triggered by anxiety impact a romantic partner. Super cool stuff! Many many MANY pages in this book are dog-eared and will be referred back to once I feel like dating again.

I almost don't feel right giving this a star rating because I think everyone's relationship to it will be very personal, but I absolutely loved it. So much of the book made me feel seen in such a special and meaningful way, and I LOVED that even though the focus is very much on romantic relationships, so many of the takeaways can be applied universally. I'm so glad I read this one!

I’ve been following Allison’s life and career for many years now, and I feel so proud of her for this amazing book. It is filled to the brim with good advice from herself and from experts. As someone with anxiety, I think her tips will be very useful to me in the future. Her vulnerability makes you as a reader feel more open about your own struggles around the sometimes shame-inducing world of dating. This is a great resource, and I’m so glad she wrote it.
