"But maybe this is what life is. You form communities, you grow roots, you let places and towns and people work their way under your skin."
WOW. she's a one-dayer and she's worth literally every second!!!
i am absolutely blown away by this book. it took me so long to read and i'm so bummed??? but i loved it SO much and am so happy i FINALLY got to it. i'm meeting Jenna in June and i need to be able to gush about this to her.
Darren and Decklee are perfect POV characters. they're both so stubborn and headstrong and bright and curious and so desperate for something to help them prove they're not just made for small town living. they're yearning for change and for adventure and i relate to that so much!!! i loved watching their love stories develop. i think the dual POV was the PERFECT choice for this story, as we couldn't have followed Darren's journey as well if we didn't have the context and history of Decklee's rise to fame and her relationships.
the conversations around being queer in the south and in small towns was also so lovely??? i feel so lucky to be in a part of the country where it wouldn't necessarily be a problem for me to openly love a woman. (with this current climate, i guess that could change but being from the north has me feeling very blessed)
THE PLOT TWIST WAS SO WILD. WOW. i've said this a million times, but i'm never one to see a plot twist coming so the plot twist in this book???? literally felt like it punched me in the face!!!! what a twist. jenna you absolute genius.
my heart ached and i yearned along with Darren and with Decklee and by the time i was finished my nose was stinging!! i was so close to tears!! that's rare!!
i absolutely adored everything about this book and NOWWWW someone needs to bury a time capsule or plan an adventure road trip for me because ME NEXT! ME NEXT!
thank you for writing this, Jenna. 🤍
