This book was just as good now as it was when I was a ten year old, if not better. Definitely going on my “to read to my kids someday” shelf, and also on the “reread every so often” shelf. Also, my audio version had wonderful interviews with the author’s granddaughter and the author herself at the end - definitely listen if you can!

amazing in the context of its day, mediocre but today's standards. I can see why it's being adapted to a film... but I'm *really* glad that they're taking the time to scrape the religion out of it. This book was telling a fun story one moment then throwing around some grade-A Christian bullcrap the next. it made me intensely uncomfortable.

I also detest having a protagonist so dumb that she litterally needs to be told things three or more times in a row before they sink in. It makes for highly tedious dialogue.

DID NOT FINISH: 52%

I don’t think I was in the mood to listen to this story and I would like to come back to it at another time.

I just reread this 12/4/12. It's a wonderful story about the power of love, but it still doesn't get five stars. Sorry Rachel!
