Have you ever dropped your phone and thought you cracked the screen then you picked it up and it’s fine? That’s how this book felt, for the entire read I found the book a combination of better fantasy novels and in the end I found the book to be fine.

My primary dislike of Brandy Sandy’s writing is his inability to be concise. There are so many superfluous words throughout his novels I’ve read that are redundant. Prime example: he has used “eye blinks” as measure of time on numerous occasions. The definition of the word blink is to shut and open the eyes quickly, there’s also of course a blinking light but I know his readers are smart enough to figure it out within the context. I have other issues with his writing that could be resolved if he had a better editor but I digress.

I have never written a 500 page book so kudos to him but driving home my point, I feel that he didn’t need 500 pages to tell this story.
