This book surprised me-- I picked it up entirely on a whim and ended up really enjoying it. Very unique approach to magic with a refreshingly practical yet still emotionally complex heroine.

I'm not sure if this book is considered YA or not (I found it in the YA section but others have told me they found it in fantasy), but if it is, I think it really should be more popular than it is. I love that it focuses more on the bonds of friendship than romantic love. It does have romantic love in it, but it's not even close to being the most important aspect of the story, and that's wonderful to see these days.

Love the bonds between the characters and the themes of loyalty, faith in each other, and standing up for what is right. The world is rich and well thought out, the characters are interesting and diverse from each other, and the twists are genuinely surprising.

Only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because it has a slow start and I'm personally not really into that. It puts you right into the middle of the world and it takes a bit for you to adjust to the language and terms of the world. However, if you push through that it's so worth it. Great read.

I love the feeling of being so incredibly immersed into a universe! I am looking forward to the next one for sure. I feel like the protagonist has so much growth to do and I can't wait to watch them grow!!

This book was incredibly written, and I really enjoyed it. The characters were really well done, I loved the dialogue, the setup and payoff was insanely impressive, the world building and combat were also really interesting, intriguing and well done.

I really wanted to give this book five stars, but it’s held back by the romance. It just isn’t well done. It didn’t necessarily even need to BE a romantic relationship, and if it was platonic then this would have been 5 stars. (I’m not anti romance in general but this one was just wrong)

My first (but definitely not my last) Brandon Sanderson read! Heist stories are so fun. There's incredible world building and I enjoy the way it's slowly revealed through out the book. The characters all feel believable with their own motives and desires. The conclusion was satisfying, while still leaving enough mystique and unanswered questions that I can't wait for the next two books!
