What the fuck. There should be trigger warnings for this book in the beginning

So, so beautiful. Almost devastatingly. I really loved the writing, the weirdness, and the atmosphere of this book. It was really easy to flow through, but very slowly. I just slowly took my time and read it all at once, and it was just amazing. I loved the weird and kooky stories and descriptions -- it is so creative and fantastic. I loved it. Really innovative and emotionally visceral. It made great use of incorporating the environment and the seasons and all of the earthly elements. So interesting to see how humanity collided with the earth around it, and how people can slowly hurt and love each other.

Definitely listen to the audiobook. The throat singing is unnerving and really gives a different effect to the poetry/verse. At about 10 minutes left in the audiobook, I got shivers. The author read this so masterfully. Beautiful, harrowing piece of speculative work.

Not really sure about the details of what occurred - but still enjoyed the book.

(read this book a few years ago just reviewing it now)

what a wild and confusing and whimsical and dark and wonderful book. it is.. unlike anything ive ever read, and as someone who really values uniqueness (when its done well) Split Tooth places decently high up in my list.

the writing style and narrative structure are incredibly fun to read, and the way Tanya Tagaq blends real life into the imaginary feels so fluid and recognizable that even though it seems completely incomprehensible you still know exactly ehats happening, and j think that takes a large amount of skill.

Split Tooth is a book filled with passion, and icsnt recommend it enough if youre looking for something different and unique :3

Powerful prose and vivid storytelling. Important messages about indigenous populations but very disturbing depictions of abuse, violence, sexual activity, drug use, and poverty.
