This book was beautifully written and visceral but at the same time quite unpleasant to read. That being said, I appreciate it so much.
Well, that was by far the most messed up book I have ever read. Disturbing scenes of sexual abuse. SO many odd poems. The narrator gets pregnant... the father? THE NORTHERN LIGHTS! I don’t understand! Seriously, I literally did not understand half of this book. Like... man, I just can’t with this book. I am just... baffled.
The author is an Inuit throat singer and avant garde artist. This is a collection of vignettes. I listened to it on audio book, which is the way to go because it's performed by the author. I really admired this but it is pretty graphic and dark so had to put it down before finishing. I think it's better read or listened to over a period of time longer than a library check out window perhaps.

It's January 11, and I'll be shocked and pleasantly surprised if I read a better book this year. This book was nourishing in so many ways. Like good poetry, rather than distract or carry me away, it returned me to myself and to the earth, and I'm grateful.

This book was beautiful and poetic and emotional; however, I walked away feeling confused and unsure of what I had read. I also feel dissatisfied. Like I wanted to know more. Maybe that's the point - the reader isnt entitled to know more. We're only to know as much as the author is willing to share. It is certainly like nothing I have read before and plays with magical realism to an extent I have never previously experienced.
