I didn’t really know what to expect from this book. It’s definitely different from what I usually read but this is probably one of the most interesting books I’ve read in a while. I wasn’t super into the poetry aspect but other than that it was really good!
4.5 stars. Would highly recommend the audiobook, which is read by the author, and includes her throat singing between the chapters. It helped me to really ‘feel’ this book rather than trying to interpret every line. Intense, dark, and poetic.

This was a really powerful book. I have a hard time describing it but I strongly recommend hearing it ready by Tanya Tagaq herself in the audiobook. She sings in between chapters and it really heightens the experience!
