Once again, I loved Cindy's narration. I have read the book before but this is my first time on audio. I think Nghi's series of novellas leave the reader contemplating something new every time they read. This read had me contemplating how stories are told and how they evolve in different cultures or families.
I can't recommend this series of novellas enough! A must read for every reader.

The format of these novellas are so cool. The “first” one (they can be read in any order) was kind of a museum catalogue, and this one was a story told from two different perspectives/cultures.

I did not realize this was the second book in a series (or does it only take place in the same world as the first book?) I still enjoyed it, and would have given it four stars if not for the ending...
Super tense, since it isn't clear how the main characters will avoid being eaten by the tigers... And I was expecting them to survive through some clever trickery or flattery or for it to be revealed that the cleric had a plan the whole time. But nope, they were saved by some random mammoth riders who happened to be nearby. What happened to the tigers? Who knows. The main character was annoyingly useless most of the time, and they never really redeemed themselves in the end. They just told a story as a delaying tactic for no reason since they had no way to know that they were waiting for anything.
I'm disappointed, but everything before the ending was really fun <3

The Singing Hills Cycle is such a beautiful collection of fantasy. Queerness abounds, with witty and emotional characters and relationships. Vo packs an expansive world full of lore and creation into less than 150 pages with each book, yet it never feels like too much or too little. It is the epitome of short, immersive fantasy. This second installation was definitely my favorite of the two; I hope Vo writes more in this series because I’m wholly invested now.
