I do like stories about stories, though I am realizing that Vo's writing is so atmospheric that I can get a bit lost in that and lose what's actually happening.

Not a bad book, this just remains not totally for me. A delightful storytelling, the telling of a myth within another story. Interesting world building and characters. If you are an enjoyer of fairytales and myths this will be a great read.

Been enjoying these quick reads packed with character and cool imagery. I liked the first book but liked this book just a bit more. Hearing the same story from different perspectives was fun and I enjoyed seeing how the Tiger's version differed and finding out their cultural values and sayings.

So much better on ebook. Nghi Vo's imagination is amazing.

Original review:

Well, it's still everything I should love, but I remain completely confused. I'm going to try the ebooks to see if they stick any better.

I like the imagination in these books and the fairytale vibes, but I have no idea what's going on

Another lovely little fireside tale! I didn't enjoy it quite as much as the 1st one but I enjoyed all the folklorish vibes! I might spread the rest of the novellas out a bit more and leave them for the coziness of winter so I can enjoy them to their fullest!

This was a fascinating novella - small in size but rich in depth. The exploration of the power stories have was really enticing and kept me engaged throughout the book.
