i just love mary kubica’s writing and the details she adds to every character, every scene. i was about 70% through and was like “wouldn’t it be crazy if xyz happened?”, expecting i would be wrong. turns out i guessed part of the twist so that was slightly disappointing but still a solid thriller. also i loved the narrator for the audiobook!

I had mixed feelings about this book. The first half was tough to get through due to the relentless graphic descriptions of domestic abuse situations and a suicide attempt. Despite my initial frustration, I persisted and was surprised with a suspenseful and tense storyline.
The book takes a dramatic turn around the halfway mark, and the pieces start to fall into place. The ending was unexpected and had my heart racing.

Book Tok should be banned. Who wants to read about a woman protagonist who is an absolute idiot?! No wonder her daughter gets kidnapped, no wonder there is someone who knows exactly where she lives. I read about half of it until I gave up on her stupidity and naivety. Honestly the plot of the book had me incredibly hopeful, it could have been a great story.

This book was okay to me. Good not great in comparison to some of the author’s other works (loved those). This started off a bit slow for my liking and the 1st plot twist came when I was almost 75% of the way in and I almost missed it. And also there was a lot of unnecessary background for a portion of the book that had me curious to where it was going. The epilogue was definitely needed but seemed a little cliché. I think I’d recommend to others who are familiar with her other books in order to discuss their thoughts.
