Wow, am I ever glad that I read this on my Kindle instead of purchasing the hard copy with that AWFUL freaking cover! Holy crap is it over the top BAD. Lol.
That aside, this book really wasn't bad. I liked the sci-fi angle and the smutty bits were pretty fun with the added sci-fi elements involved (I'm a sucker for smutty sci-fi lately, don't know what it is). The dialogue was a bit repetitive at times and it got a little overly mushy for me in the second half (okay, a LOT overly mushy for me in a lot of the second half), but it kept me hooked and I read it in a day.
I'll probably be reading more from this series.

This started out as a solid 3 for me, but by the end I wasn't having it. I liked the premise, but I'm getting PRETTY TIRED of controlling, possessive, and abusive behavior in relationships being passed off as a symptom of extreme love.

The romance is alright, the Changelings are interesting but not incredibly different from other characters I've read about. What I'm most captivated by is the implications of Sascha's handicap and how she deals with it.
I knew almost right away that her energy keeping her emotions in was the reason she couldn't do much else of value to the Psy society, and it was nice to be validated when the truth came out. Hiding the undesirable parts of yourself (masking??) is very relatable, and it was gratifying to read about Sascha accepting her gifts and reframing everything she knew into a world where she could not only survive but thrive.

Overall I enjoyed it well enough. I thought the different races were inventive and made a good setup for the romance. Which was fairly predictable but still good, I was rooting for everything to work out. although there were still moments when I thought oh come on, really?. I felt the ending of the plot was a little abrupt or skipped over some things a bit or something.

Este libro, mejor dicho, esta saga la encontré por la casualidad de que vi una imagen en uno de los grupos de fb en los que estoy metida (y nunca comento, ja). Y me recordó de una saga que he disfrutado demasiado y me pareció interesante.
Nalini Singh nos lleva a un mundo de fantasía donde existen los Cambiantes y los humanos, pero también una raza que gobierna el mundo llamada Psi, individuos que reniegan de sus emociones y carecen de humanidad; sin embargo, nuestra protagonista Sascha, a pesar de ser una psi puede percibir emociones de las que no tiene control. Por otra parte, Lucas es el alfa del clan DarkRiver, un cambiante con el propósito de introducirse en la sociedad elitista de los psi y su ticket de entrada es una psi que se oculta detrás de su apariencia fríamente perfecta.
Lo primero que voy a decir es que el titulo "La Noche del Cazador" realmente no me cuadra porque el titulo original es "Slave to Sensation" que se traduce a Esclava de Sensaciones o algo así, lo cual se relaciona mas al contenido ya que nuestra protagonista esta en una lucha constante contra lo que siente durante la mayor parte del libro (solo sentí la necesidad de aclarar eso, mis disculpas).
Lo que mas me atrajo a este libro fue el básico planteamiento de los Psi, humanos que carecen de emociones. O mejor dicho, humano que decidieron renunciar a sentir para mejorar. Me puse a pensar un momento en que ese podría ser un futuro para nuestra descendencia y realmente no quiero que mis futuros tataranietos tengan que vivir sin emociones.
En cuanto a los personajes, no es que me enamore de alguno en especifico (Dorian, oops), pero puedo decir que la mayoría de tiempo fueron personajes bastante buenos, sobre todo los del clan Dark Rivers. E incluso Sascha no tuvo uno de esos momentos débiles que dejan mal al genero femenino después de que se enamoro de Lucas, aunque él sí tuvo sus momentos de dominante pero se justifica.
Estoy increíblemente complacida con este primer libro y creo que voy a seguir leyendo esta saga porque la autora me dejo con ganas de mas.

SLAVE TO SENSATION is one of my all time favorite books and holds a very special place in my heart. It hits all the right buttons for me and just works in every way, no matter how long it's been since I read it last. From the very first time I read this book I've been amazed at the world Nalini Singh has created. It's so unique and interesting and really well developed. I love all the intricacies of the futuristic setting where the three races -- human, changeling, and Psy -- struggle to co-exist.
Part of what makes SLAVE TO SENSATION so good is the richly described characters who you just fall in love with; from the main couple to the side characters, everyone captures your attention. But of course Lucas and Sascha steal the show, it is their book after all. Lucas was strong, cunning, dominant, and possessive, but also sweet and caring. His life hasn't been easy and as the alpha of the DarkRiver pack he has to make hard choices sometimes, but at his heart he's a generous and compassionate man. I loved watching him interact with his packmates and how he cared for each of them. And then when he started to extend that care to Sascha as well...I swooned. Sascha has also had a hard life and she's been mentally and emotionally beaten down to the point that she believes she's a useless Psy with no power. Watching her come out of her shell and find her power, her confidence, and her place in the world was beautiful. I also adored the scenes where she goes head to head with Lucas and stands up for herself or others. She's exactly the kind of mate an alpha needs.
With such lovable characters it's easy to make their romance work but what makes it really special is the intimacy that Singh writes into their relationship. Yes the love and lust and the sex are great but what really grabs me are the little things -- holding hands, whispered words, an arm around the waist, a kiss on the neck. All those quiet moments that make me believe the couple has actually fallen in love and they care about each other outside the bedroom. Singh is a master at this and it always makes me want to sigh in happiness when I read her books.
I can't recommend this series enough to anyone who likes complex world building that grows over a series, big casts of characters, swoony fated mates romance, and growly shifters.

I have long been on a mission to find a shifter series that I enjoy as much as Suzanne Wright's, so I decided to pick this up. While I wouldn't say that this lived up to those expectations, I did enjoy it and think it is a solid start to the series that I will hopefully enjoy more the more I read. I am still a little confused about certain things and am left with a lot of questions that will hopefully get answered in the other books.
