After my last book I said that I "needed something low stakes and sexy",  and Slave to Sensation seemed to fit the bill. I'd seen it recommended as a top reread so I figured it would have the right, comforting vibes.

And in a way, it was exactly what I needed - a light, low angst read, but also, I don't see what all the fuss is about. I am not a fan of MMCs like Lucas. He's too cocky, too perfect. The guy's only weakness can't be the heroine.
Speaking of Sascha, she was fine, I guess. But like, how is her wildest fantasy to give Lucas a BJ?!
I didn't feel like there was a lot of chemistry between Lucas and Sascha, and the sex scenes really didn't do it for me. The mutual "dreams" or whatever were new though. And I know this is part and parcel with alpha heroes, but the not stopping when Sascha said 'no' really killed me.

Last complaint, the POV switching mid chapter with zero indicators was super confusing.

On to the good stuff:
This had to have been a pretty revolutionary book when it was first published in 2006, and I'm sure I have Nalini Singh to thank for some my favorite shifter books.

I wanted something I didn't have a lot of emotional investment in, but I had zero investment, mostly because I think I always knew that everything was going to turn out fine. Like there was no way Lucas was going to let anything happen to Sascha. And for all my complaining, I'm bummed that the rest of the series isn't available at my library.

I'd been interested in reading this book for some time, since it had been on my recommended reading list. I was pleasantly surprised by the story. It had really great character development, hot romance, and well than I had expected after reading the summary alone suggested to me

SUMMARY (My take on it)
The heroine, Sacha Duncan, lives in a largely insular society with a variety of psychic powers, that call themselves the Psy. The society is filled with people conditioned to not feel emotion. She struggles with this lifestyle and faces persecution within her community, until things begin to change after she meets, Lucas Hunter. Lucas is a half-human, half-shifter part of the Changling community. He's more specifically the leader of a powerful group of panther Changlings that are hot on the trail of a serial killer who he and his followers suspect are one of the Psy. With Sacha's help, Lucas and his clan work to find the killer and save Sacha from persecution from within her society.

I enjoyed the first book so much that I immediately went on to read the next book in the series.

This is a mash of a sci-fi/shifter/dystopia kind of novel, and honestly it’s so fascinating.

I really like the different races involved in this world. I think the psy vs changling dynamic is cool. I like the play on physical vs mental strength.

It’s definitely a paranormal romance, it’s not groundbreaking literature, but it’s a very solid paranormal romance.

4/5 stars

I could never get sick of reading about Sascha and Lucas, my babies 🫶
Rereading it, I see so many hints at future pairings I'm like 👀👀 and the foreshadowing? Girl....she's good.

Just WOW! One of the best paranormal/urban fantasy adult books! This gem has it all - excellent plot, pleasant to read style of writing, plenty of awesome characters and sizzling romance. I couldn't put it down and there are no weak points in this book. Highly recommended!
