a cute, light read! I thought it would be a bit more of a travel-based book when Albert goes on the adventures to find his old love, but it was still a very sweet book. A bit cringey and predictable at times, but cute nonetheless. I wish we saw a bit more of Albert and George’s relationship, though.

This uplifting and heartwarming story guarantees an emotional ride. It follows Albert Entwistle, a Royal Mail postman turning 65 💌📫📮. His forced retirement and a series of events lead him to reevaluate his life and, more importantly, reunite with George, the love of his life 💕. As Albert opens up and comes out of the closet, he surprisingly finds people warming to him more when he reveals his true self, which he has been hiding for decades.

The narrative alternates between the present and Albert's teenage years, gradually revealing more about his past and his relationship with George—how it blossomed and ended.

I enjoyed Nicole’s parallel storyline. Despite her different background, she faces similar relationship challenges. Their unlikely friendship provides mutual support in their quests for happiness.

The ending is sweet and happy, just as I like it. Perfect for light reading, this book is ideal for readers who enjoy stories about human connections.📚

Full of stereotypes, and harmful ones at that.

The world the characters lives in is a little too picture perfect. I think the plot dragged a lot but I found the friendships somewhat endearing. I liked the audiobook narrator though. He was the perfect reader for Albert.

Heartwarming and quick read, let down by plot points and turns that aren’t quite believable. I loved the characters and their stories, but was consistently pulled out of that by some of the artistic decisions made here.

Almost certainly going to recommend this to folks to read however. It goes without saying that people need to read more books with gay protagonists, and learn about the struggles the gay community went through in recent history – especially in historically blue collar towns and counties in England.

P.S. I loved the regional dialects in this book, it made me yearn for a trip to the north.
