This knocked my fucking socks off. Yellowface is as funny as it is horrific with a "protagonist" at the center who is truly foul in every sense. As awful as June Hayward is, her perspective never becomes tiring or less baffling to read. R.F. Kuang is so brilliant to have brought something like this to the table and I can't wait to make everyone in my life who hasn't read it yet move it to the top of their lists.

I loved the writing style of this book—the author does this thing where the say something insane & like super problematic and they try to justify it. It works well to try to get the reader inside the mind of June.

Yellowface is a thought-provoking and razor-sharp read that I devoured in 2 days. June is a captivating unreliable narrator and kept me on the edge of my seat as she dodged metaphorical bullets left and right as people threatened to uncover her deception. This book made me question my own moral compass, as I found myself rooting for June to get away with it at times, other times I desperately wanted  her to get caught. I felt her paranoia, her guilt, her frustration, her jealousy.

I also enjoyed the ‘behind the scene’ look at the publishing industry and its cutthroat environment with a disregard for cultural sensitivity that is both shocking and intriguing. The social commentary sheds light on relevant and complex issues, making "Yellowface" a standout on my bookshelf.

It's fast-paced, satirical, and a must Read.
