This book starts stronger than Messiah, but quickly devolves into the same pattern of carrying all plot through dialogue. Everything is told, very little is being shown.

Alia’s character remains underdeveloped, and that of the flattest villains. And that stuck out for me through the entirety of this novel.

Only the last 20% of the book became engaging and held more weight than the rest of it.

A wonderful book, and, in my opinion Frank Herbert should have stopped here. The socio-political aspects are extremely well executed.

Pretty much perfected Dune for me. It's a combination of Dune and Messiah in that Children takes the more complex political web and applies it to the grander scale of Dune.

Characters are all generally more interesting than before, with Duncan and Leto being the highlights for me.

Yeah, one of the best things I've read.
