This was my first Tami Hoag. I liked the storyline. I didn't figure out who the villain was until close to the end. I did find some of the descriptions a little too vivid and slightly disturbing.

Not the genre of books that I normally read, but I actually liked it. It was easy to get into the story. I liked that it really showed how different parenting and family structures can affect kids.

A good mystery. Love how it's been set in the early stages of forensic criminal research

I'm a bit surprised that I haven't read any of Tami Hoag's books before, but I found this when I was looking for a filler book.
The story about young woman being tortured and murdered in a small, quiet town is interesting enough (albeit a bit gruesome), but I struggled a bit with the characters. They seemed a bit one-dimensional and a bit predictable. The relationship that develops was a little too "knight in shining armor" like for me as well. While there are a fair number of red herrings in this book, I still found it easy to figure out whodunit. But the biggest issue I had was that there were several loose ends and a couple of story lines that just seemed to die out. It may be that there are subsequent books that continue the story, but I'm not sure if I'll be checking them out.

I didn't get any work done today because I couldn't put this book down! I couldn't decide who the killer was and really needed to know. I enjoyed the fact it took place in 1985 and was reminded about how much has changed in crime scene evidence since then. This was my first Tami Hoag book and I can't wait to read more but I'll need to make sure I start them when I can spend the whole day reading without feeling guilty.
