I'm surprised that a book with such an odd premise did manage to have an ending that made me feel. But I'd say the journey there wasn't the most gripping. I guess the premise of a man mysteriously losing weight isn't that exciting a premise. Especially when compared to the two previous Stephen King books (Dolores Claiborne and Later) that I read.
I've heard talk that in his earlier works, King's depictions of LGBTQ+ characters (and really most minority characters) was problematic. I haven't read those earlier books so I can't really say. But if that's true then he's made big improvements when it comes to his depictions of LGBTQ+ characters. Missy and Deidre were interesting characters and I wished the book had focused more on them. Or at least they were involved in a more interesting story. King's not going to win a GLAAD award anytime soon but it's a pretty refreshing depiction for a 70 something straight white guy from Maine.
Maybe I read this book too slowly so I couldn't really enjoy the story. I've had that problem in the past with books about 150 pages long as I've read other reviews that say those books are best if you read them in one day instead of over several days. Whatever the reason it just didn't work for me.

Das war eine sehr coole Kurzgeschichte! Die hatte echt alles. Emotionen, Humor, viel Interpretationsspielraum, lebhafte Charaktere und eine unglaubliche Story. Absolute Empfehlung.

This book was a quick smile from a friendly looking stranger on the street. It was over before I realized it happened, and made me feel nice. Definitely an old white dude saving lesbians from the big bad world, but I appreciate that King’s characters and their relationships have gotten more diverse with each book. If you liked some of his not-so-murdery books like The a Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon this is for you.

A brief, enjoyable read. Not without flaw, but it's niceness is in its brevity. Escape for a couple of hours in a small town with a small group of people and a dude who becomes lighter and lighter. A simple, fun book.

Well. This was not what I was expecting. Short & sweet. But I was not prepared to feel so sad at the end. I’m literally wiping my tears now. I DONT EVEN KNOW WHY. Anywayssss great read. Thanks, Stephen.
