This was a great series.
This particular instalment felt a bit rushed to me, but that might have been intentional. I think the main character feels rushed (and she messes with time some too). I was tired for her most of the book. I was also tired for me, because this whole series kept me up reading.
I love that the author uses real moments, places and names for her story. She takes liberties with them, but she fully admits that. It was 700 years ago, I doubt these folks are gonna complain about it.
This series would be a great reread on audiobook. Then maybe I could learn how to say some of these Russian words and names!
I do feel like a few characters were left hanging. Maybe they still live in Katherine Ardens head. Maybe someday they will show back up in another story... A girl can dream.

4.5 stars rounding down.
I really enjoyed the ending to this trilogy. I appreciated the introduction of some new fantasy elements to the world to keep things interesting rather than just a continuation of the previous books. Vasya remains one of my favorite FMC

This book went in a lot of places that I didn't anticipate. In a good way! What fun, what tragedy, what adventure! I also really, really liked the author's note at the end explaining which parts of the book were based on actual Russian history. I have really liked every book I've read by Katherine Arden so far. I can't wait to see what she does next.

Well, I completely INHALED this. I had to drive to the library to pick up a physical copy because I couldn't wait for the ebook, and I did NOT want to wait.
What an absolutely wonderful conclusion to this trilogy. The Winternight Trilogy is catnip for me. It's lush, expansive fairytale-inspired fantasy, filled with rich language, intriguing characters, a wonderful romance (that doesn't dominate the entire story), and deft plotting.
There's really not much to complain about here. Vasya is true to herself, as strange and strong and undeniably herself as she is in the rest of the books, and the plot moves along at a strong clip, especially compared to the first novel. We've really seen her grow into her own, to scrabble and scrape by to survive, and I was rooting for her the entire time. Katherine Arden puts everyone through the wringer, and I was right there with everyone the entire time.
If I have ANY complaint, it's that this book could have been longer. I could have lived in this world with these characters for another 100 pages. I could have even used an Epilogue, because this is just so, so good.
