I've missed Sharona. And this has been my favorite book in the series so far.

I'd recommend the book to anyone who enjoys the show and is looking for a book version.

The author has been a writer for the show, so the adaptation to book is pretty seemless. Like the show, you know or can easily guess who the murderer is, but the story is more about the unraveling of "here is how he did it" by the obssesive compulsive detective. Bringing back the old assistant Sheronna who abruptly left the show was also a nice tie-in.

If you are not a regular watcher of the show, I don't think that the book stands as well on its own.

While this was a great story, I guessed the killer as soon as we were introduced to him. Just like Ludlow gave it away in the first few chapters, so does Goldberg.

This is the fourth book in the series. When I bought this one, I also bought the fifth, but I still need to get my hands on the second, third, seventh and eighth.

Anyway, very early on in the story, Natalie and Adrian encounter Sharona, who tells them that she is separated from her husband because he is in prison, accused of murder. Since the book is in first person, narrated by Natalie, we get to see Natalie's insecurity as thoughts of losing her job to Sharona grow in her mind. I liked the "rivalry" between the two as they convince Monk to investigate the murder.

Monk's reaction to Los Angeles is hilarious. Very typically Monk. I felt, personally, that all the familiar characters were well written and true to form. I was disappointed, however, that we didn't see much of Julie, and we never saw Benji or Sharona's sister (though they were talked about often).

I figured out who the murderer was very quickly, and had a hunch as to the "why." Though it was still fun to get to the "here's what happened."

I would heartily recommend this to any fan of the series!

These books are just fabulous and I love them - this one was just as great. Witty, wise and very human. Can't wait for the next one.
