Lots of fun, a fast moving plot. The conclusion comes a little fast. Released June 3, 2008; First time author

Very fun book. Good, fun characters, with humor scattered throughout. There is a fourth sequel coming out in 2013, I believe. Can't wait for that.
Conn was one of the most likeable protagonists I've met in a while. He is humble and honest, and his liking for biscuits made my own mouth water (thank goodness for the recipes at the end). The pacing was good and the other characters were vivid and interesting. This is a quick, easy read and would be a good one to get boys reading.

While i did read this pretty quickly it was not a pleasurable read. Phrases i could do without: keen-gleam, sure as sure, clear as clear... shut up kid. I really hope this doesnt win the Caudill or i will attack some kids.
Wanted to read something short for a change and this had been sitting on my shelves for years. Didn’t take long to read at all. Wasn’t that great, but then again, it’s a children’s book and I’ve outgrown that so I think I was a little biased to dislike it. My biggest issue is the character names and names of places and objects are clearly made up and are really difficult to sound out and pronounce which was a bit frustrating at times.
This book was really cute. The main character is smart and quiet and takes everything in. He's extremely honest and isn't the type of protagonist to hide key facts for the sake of suspense. It was a quick read and I couldn't put it down. Even though the main character is a bit of a Gary Stu in that he was "chosen" by the magic and he knows things because he can "just feel it", I really liked it. I hope the next books expand on the world.
