My first Jack Reacher book! I really enjoyed Lee Childs writing, it was an easy and entertaining read.. I watched the show first and then read this book. Both great :)

2.5 ⭐ actual rating.

Gonna keep this review short. Everything about this book was completely "meh" to me. I wouldn't go so far to say I didn't like it (2 ⭐), but I definitely would not say that I liked it (3 ⭐) either.

The writing was pretty bland. The narrator was pretty bland. The characters were pretty bland. I almost DNF'd this sucker like 5 times. This is all too bad because I enjoyed the 2 Tom Cruise movies that this followed (I haven't seen the TV show). Sometimes I wonder if I would have enjoyed books more if I read them, and that will lurk with me on this one a little since I did enjoy the movie counterparts, but that isn't enough to bring me back.

Needless to say, I won't be reading any more books in this series.

I've just gotten the first installment of a full set of Jack Reacher novels from a friend (1-8 in this set). This is number one, and I was surprised to learn that I hadn't already read it. It's amazing how good Lee Child was in his first outing with Reacher. This is a reprint, with an introduction by Child about how he came up with the character (including his name, which is a really funny story). I love Jack Reacher, for reasons I cannot fully explain, and, I say again, Tom Cruise is not, not, not Jack Reacher.

Anyway, I'm going to have to pace myself. I inhaled this one.

Terrible prose

Eh, I'll pass on this series. It's very commercial, and I understand why it's made tons of money for Lee Child and Tom Cruise, but the narrator said "cocked and locked" about Reacher's handgun one too many times for me. Lots of action, cheesy dialogue, and unreal events--perfect for a Hollywood blockbuster! (And for my dad)
