The story was slow and plodding, did not advance the characters or the journey to the Dark Tower. The addition of vampire plot was ham-fisted and totally out of the blue unless the payoff is a different book.

Tough getting to the end of the story and there was no payoff.

It was a great adventure once again, enjoyed all the characters and I’m very curious what comes next. The very end got pretty meta btw.

After listening to Frank Muller’s voice reading the previous novels I had to really get used to the new voice. I didn’t get why they chose to change up. Until I’ve heard the very last bit with the dedication to Frank Muller and the sad reason why he couldn’t do these last books in the serie.

Somewhere along 3.5-3.75 rating. Those are my current thoughts upon finishing the novel a few moments ago. Maybe once I sleep on it, I’ll feel different come morning? If so I’ll change my rating, but so far it’s not worthy of anything more than 3.75 in my opinion…

Wolves of the Calla remains my favorite book in the series. Not only does it combine frenetic action and compelling storytelling, but its ending is one of the most unique twists I've seen in fantasy -- a shattering of the fourth wall that is as confusing as it is exciting.

The sections with Mia/Susannah are appropriately gruesome, too. In a King book that lacks "horror", those passages bring a suitably grim aesthetic to the story (especially considering how the book ends).
