I'm oscillating between 3 and 4 stars on this one. I liked it-a lot. I love how King is able to weave characters and happenings form his other novels into this story. My problem was that I felt like there were a few continuity issues plot-wise, but who knows, it could have just been me. I don't remember Vannay being mentioned in the previous novels. Why would Roland all of a sudden start talking about a second teacher? Wouldn't he have come up before now? Maybe I'm just getting old...
This book started out slowly. It reminded me of The Gunslinger, but unlike book 1, it picked up quite a bit. I listened to this on audio book and King's afterword was sad and interesting. He dedicated the book to Frank Muller, the audiobook narrator who read the first 4 books, and said that Frank's reading voices were literally the voices King was hearing while writing.
This book was my favorite of the series so far. It would have been good all on its own, but the way it tied in to series made it that much better. The inclusion of a character from another SK book was a welcome surprise as well. The pace was much faster than Wizard and Glass in my opinion and was a welcome change from the format of that book. Even though the ending tied up the main part of the story(unlike Wastelands), it left me wanting to start the next book right away.
This book was so good. I’m falling more and more in love with this series!
Not too bad, felt like it dragged a bit as well, but still a good tale.
Still inspired, imaginative storytelling and the same bodybuilding found in the rest of The Dark Tower series. Ultimately this novel fell short of the rest of The series.
The first half was a great read, but the second just felt like plodding on towards the obvious, eventual ending we got. Some twists and turns, but this is not at the level of the previous books in the series.

I'm slow to get on the Stephen King wagon. I've read very few other than the Dark Tower series but am aware that there are a lot of references to his other works in various books. This is the first I've really caught it and I love it!! I'm such a nerd about this kind of stuff
