Compelling, adorable, quite tropey but with a very different cast than what we usually see, so it managed to be perfectly interesting anyway. Sometimes the action was a little difficult to follow, but the story and atmosphere carried it

This was an exquisitely done novel exploring themes of colonization and resistance. It reflected many of the continued struggles of Arabic nations and those in the diaspora. It follows Aiza's journey leaving her home and family to enlisting in the military and training to become a Knight's squire. Aiza is born of a shunned bloodline and keeps her identity a secret until she is confronted with the reality that her position as squire would be at odds with her identity. She and her peers go through training and grow together, and ultimately they all find their own ways of unlearning colonizing expectations and returning to their roots. They then band together to overthrow the militant leader and reeducate the enlisted minds on what values they should uphold.
I have no complaints for this book as it was so well done and engaging. The artwork was simple yet stunning and managed to convey emotion deeply and action swiftly. It helped guide the reader along with the characters as they each worked to unlearn their colonization biases, leaving us with thoughtful remarks on the state of our current world. I'll definitely reread and recommend this.

I hope there is more. This world was so well realized. The end comes a bit quick, but as set up for more it would be nice.

This was a fun adventure tale with substance. The art, especially the evening tableaus, were gorgeous. Very cinematic in a way.
There were quite a few instances where scenes changed abruptly that had me scratching my head.
Overall an enjoyable graphic novel.
