I am obsessed with the way lightening was colored and the "making of" section at the end. I just with some parts of the ending were slightly longer.

Beautiful art and nuanced story, I love seeing fantasy that also is a critique of imperialism.
adventurous challenging emotional fast-paced

Firstly, this is such a beautifully drawn book, the art and design alone is reason enough to read this book. The story itself is magnetic and energetic and so absorbing, the characters are complex and lovable. I can imagine this book being a great resource or starting point for discussing indigenous sovereignty as well as the Arab-Israeli conflict through a fantasy lens.
Recommend for teens and up!

I liked this, but the story moved way too quickly. I needed it to be way longer-- like I could see two or three books of just this arc. Will pick up a sequel if there is one though!

Beautiful artwork and clever storytelling. But I hope there's a tome 2?? Feels like everything suddenly ended and I'm not sure of what the morale would be if it stopped here.
Could be turned into a movie.

“War is an action, not a thing. It's something we do. And in the eyes of those who would control this Empire, it is how we define ourselves.
We strike, they strike, we point to where they've struck, we strike again. Again, and again.”

I wanted there to be a sequel the fact that there wasn’t made me like it less.

I really liked it! I liked Aiza a lot, and it was definitely a wholesome story. I liked that it had a lot of historical influence from actual history, and it made it feel very real and more engaging.

Fun to read - love the characters and their arcs. Lots of war/military jargon that was hard to understand and made it tough to stay engaged.
