Okay, so, hear me out on this one. The pacing is weird. The characters lack dimension. Several serious concepts are brought up and then never really explained or referenced again.

And I’m STILL giving it five stars! There were moments of horror when I genuinely cringed! There was a super-spooky, super-addictive drug! The whole book explored grief in a very unique way! I could not put it down!

Gonna recommend this to everyone with the caveat that maybe the editing was weak, but there’s a hidden gem here worth digging for. I just genuinely liked this book, idk.

Hated it

This was the actual worst book I’ve ever read, and I used to be an English teacher, so I’ve read a lot of books. This one was so bad that I’m actually angry. It was awfully written, like someone trying to be edgy, when it really sounds idiotic. The plot gets so exponentially, disgustingly absurd that it feels like he’s just writing for shock value. The theme could have been so beautiful and meaningful, but he ruins it by pulling in some of the most ridiculous details I’ve ever read in a work of fiction. I recommend no one else read this book ever until the end of time.

Erin Hill is lost. She cannot hold down a job, her parents think she’s a disappointment, even her friendships are questionable.

However there is one person that has always given her life some direction, Silas, an on-again/off-again love and her intellectual equal. However, Silas has his own set of problems, the most recent of which sees him escaping rehab and seeking Erin’s help. But this time, she says no. She and Silas’ other two friends think the only way to make Silas learn and grow out of his destructive cycle is to not give him the help he seeks. However, a few days later, Silas is found dead and Erin blames herself.

When their friend Tobias contacts her shortly after Silas’ memorial service and offers her a chance to see Silas one last time via a drug he has created called Ghost, she jumps at the chance.

This is a gripping and haunting look at addiction and the terrifying hold it has on the lives of those who suffer it. It’s dark, it’s sad, it’s hard to put down.

Not so much scary and not at all what I thought it would be about.

Tough tale of addiction mixed with the supernatural.

Overall steady pace of kinda depressing chain of events.

But I thought it was a good story and I liked the ending.

A brilliant literary haunted paranormal ghost story.

A story of grief, love, regret and ghosts.

The reviews put me off and I am so glad I ignored them. I think people are going into it expecting jump scares but this is a horror story rooted in grief and ghosts. It’s literary horror and is a masterpiece !!!
