It was boring. The main character was a privileged individual who constantly bitched and moaned about having too much.

First of all, this novel is so boring. Like actually so boring. The writing (it could just be the translation to be honest) doesn't make up for it either. As a mentally ill person (lol), nothing really resonates with me in this book apart from the odd line here and there. That is, in the sense of the metaphors and imagery used, not the content. Obviously, I can't relate to any experiences portrayed.
Second of all the narrator is the biggest see you next tuesday ever. Sorry but having a rough childhood doesn't mean you get to be a pos the rest of your life. I don't know how to explain what I mean without sounding insensitive; I know myself how easy it is to become a "bad" person when you suffer with mental illness but this is on another level.
His entitlement is so jarring. Also, the way he drags innocent women into his bs and ruins their lives while simultaneously expecting them to solve all his problems rubs me the wrong way. I know it's an old book and written by a Japanese Man (capital M) but I can't deal with the misogny.
I don't feel sorry for this character at all and the fact its somewhat an autobiography of the author makes me never want to touch any of his books again. I really don't get the hype for this book unless you're an edgy teenage boy or a miserable middle aged man.
