When Akira toriyama-sensei passed away I did what so many latinos did and revisited his life's work. I really thought he'd be around forever doing dragon quest stuff and making little machine and vehicle drawings. I really appreciated that this told a full story, not just of Goku's life but of his friends too. If you didn't have tears and a grin at the final spirit bomb when Mr. Satan helped save the day, are you even human?!

I loved so much of this final volume right up and to goku abandoning his family it’s worse here bc at least he talks to goten and vegeta in the anime. Yeesh. There just had to be a better ending (to me) I can see Goku becoming a master. But damn! Anyways everything else was so beautiful and dope and I loved vegetas whole character arc and can’t wait for more!

And with that, I've officially finished (the original run of) Dragon Ball. 😭 Idk what to even say. It's Dragon Ball. I’m looking forward to reading Super but nothing will ever quite match the magic of the OG. The author's note from Toriyama at the end got me so choked up.

I remember with fondness watching the orange brick DVDs of dragon ball with my brother when I was twelve, and he was ten. When we grew up we fought constantly, I was the instigator most of the time. We never were close, but for one fateful summer, we would gather snacks in the morning and make our way to the TV in the basement, and watch Goku and his friends overcome their trails. I had no idea at the time, but that became my favorite memory with my brother.
When Toriyama- Sensei passed earlier this year, I remembered this memory and I wanted to read his greatest work, Dragon Ball. I started at the beginning, and I have just now finished volume 42. Thank you Toriyama, for this wonderful world you have created.

What a ride! I got pretty choked up over the last few pages. So cool to revisit a story that was a huge part of my childhood and actually read it from start to finish. Very excited to start Super but I think I need a little Dragon World break. “Tackle life with as much energy as Goku!” Thank you, Toriyama!!
