This ending to this book absolutely broke me! So well written!!!
This book crushed my little heart. The way the characters are written makes you quickly fall in love with them. Then boom rips your heart out. The only downside is that aside from following the main characters, there’s very little plot. But I suppose the plot is the main characters. I enjoyed the book so much that I immediately bought the other two in the series!
4.5/5 ⭐️
I always like to take a day or two before I decide if I liked or loved a book. It's been a week since I read the book and I can't stop thinking about it, so safe to say I absolutely loved it!
This book is a grumpy/sunshine, age gap, single dad, next door neighbor trope - it has it all. Salem is an 18 year old who just graduated from high school. As all her friends and peers leave for college, she decided to stay home. She's unsure what she wants to do with her life but is content with working at her mom's store. Thayer is a 31 year old, recently divorced single dad who moved next door to Salem.
The pacing of this book was so good. I love how it started with being neighbors to friends to lovers. The connection between Salem and Thayer was undeniable. Thayer is such a respectable man, always looking to see whats best for Salem. Although he's a grumpy man, Salem always know how to make him smile. There were MANY moments that gave me so many butterflies! And the last 10% of the book? WOW, did not see any of that coming. It had me in complete shock, to the point I didn't even know if I could cry. Honestly, still trying to recover from that!
Thank you so much Micalea for an early copy of the book! I truly can't wait to read the second book!

Skimmed a lot…
I am a little torn in this book. While I really liked the last 20% the first 80% was either a bit slow, predictable or didn’t make sense. My biggest peeve was the fact they kept saying Thayer was a certain number of years older but it never matched up with their ages.
The love was a little too inst love and personally Salem was too immature about things. Cheating on her boyfriend didn’t seem like much of a concern until later…and sleeping in the same bed seemed awfully convenient and a bit odd. They were declaring love while still getting to know each other. She also kept running back to Caleb. I liked Caleb better than Thayer personally.
Ehh…in the end there could have been a bit more cohesive aspects to it, more depth and not so rushed. I’ll read book two but I hope to not skim like I did with this one.

I wanted to wait until I finished both books in this duo before rating, in a hope that the second book would save my opinion of this first book.
The beginning of this book, I didn't have many problems with. I enjoyed it for the most part. There were some parts that had me rolling my eyes, because they were either very unrealistic or cringey. Mostly that Salem acts like she is very mature for her age, and that is enough to make up for the large age gap with Thayer... but really she acts exactly her age. But the beginning and most of the middle was fine.
The ending of this book was absolutely unhinged. And not in a good way.
The first thing that caught me off guard, and started the downward spiral of this book for me was when Salem was on the roof, and witnesses Forrest flipping out on Thayer about the treehouse, and screaming that he hates him... and her response was to.. fall asleep?? On the roof?? What in the world. This girl, who has raging insomnia throughout the entire book chooses the moment she is on a rooftop, and witnessed a man she supposedly loves in crisis to fall asleep??
And then the shit show that was the rest of the book from that moment on.... holy Hannah.
Forrest's death was so unnecessary in my opinion. It felt like this author was willing to throw out every traumatic event (sexual abuse, domestic violence, death of a parent, death of a child, cancer scare, teenage pregnancy, etc.) at these characters to invoke emotion from the readers, and then just barely gloss over the trauma that would have actually resulted from those events.
I don't know... I wanted to love this series. I really did. But there are some things that just really rubbed me the wrong way. (Like Salem getting pregnant with Thayers baby RIGHT after he lost his son?? So cringey.)

*POSSIBLE SPOILERS*
This book was absolutely AMAZING... until the end. I can't believe the plot twist. I loved Thayer from the start and I was rooting for him and Salem to have a happy ending. I have no idea what to expect from the next book...

Note to self, do not skip past trigger warnings…safe to say I’m traumatized/an emotional wreck. Great book but this one left me bawling
‼️Please make sure to check the trigger warnings before picking this book up.‼️
With that out of the way, I really like this one. I like the natural progression of Salem and Thayer’s relationship. They were it for each other, their love was inevitable.

I'M SOBBING SO HARD THIS BOOK BROKE ME
Thayer and Salem were so close to being SO HAPPY and then the worst possible thing just happened. I was addicted to this book, sped through it and am starting the Ressurection of Wildflowers ASAP. I NEED TO BE RESSURECTED after what I just endured. I'm team Salem & Thayer to the end and I'm rooting for them. I normally hate cheating but I think Salem & Thayer are SOULMATES and can look past it. This book is an auto 5 stars for me because of how emotional I got and how attatched I was to the book. **BUT PLEASE PLEASE LOOK UP TRIGGERS BEFORE READING**
