As usual.. Its a fun read... I read this to get away from the intense, disturbing writing of [b:Red Dragon|28877|Red Dragon (Hannibal Lecter, #1)|Thomas Harris|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1309285070s/28877.jpg|925503] and this book did what its supposed to do. No ugly dreams and a happy mind :). I read this before going to sleep as i dint want disturbing Psycho on my mind.... And Jennifer Crusie is so good in distracting. Its not as awesome as her other books but not less worthy too. Its fun, cute and thoroughly entertaining.

Charlie is rough looking, funny, has natural charisma and not responsible and not at all career oriented and Allie is nice, responsible and career oriented. Both are As opp as one can be the only thing they have common is love for Chinese, Sex and Dogs. Its a good MOOD lifter so all you people who are down go pick up this one or any other Jennifer Cruise book.

I like the characters but they need more development.  Fun story from 1995 when radio was big and cell phones sparse.

Published in 1996…. The one with the radio producer , Allie, and the on air talent, Charlie. They meet in a bar before she realized he’s her new coworker, but they still decide to sleep together anyway (!!!!). But it’s for romance reasons, and it’s Jennifer Crusie, so I didn’t think about it too hard.

I don't know what's wrong with my reading tastes these days. I used to love books like this. Now they just seem trite. Allie is a radio producer just dumped by the star DJ. Charlie comes to town posing as a DJ to figure out who is threatening the station owner. Allie decides to have a fling with Charlie and you can guess what happens from there. Not the author's best effort.

This was recommended to my by my good friend, Lana... She must have read all 90s CR out there... lol

Anyway, this book was really what I was looking for, short, funny, and real dialogues along the way!

I've enjoyed a few of the more recent Crusie books and have been checking out her backlist now that it is in eBook form. Unfortunately, I think she was still finding her way in her early books. What I enjoy about her more recent books is the realistic, humorous voice of her characters, primary and secondary. That humor is still in evidence here, but she's also trying to mix in suspense, and I think it results in just too much going on. As a result, character development suffers.

Allie is interesting - we meet her as she wakes up to her stupid decisions of the past, and she makes a few rash, uncharacteristic decisions that could go either way. Charlie is also interesting, but we don't get to delve into him as much as necessary to like him as a hero, because the suspense plot and ex-boyfriend take up too much of the story. In this case, the suspense provide the whole reason for the hero to meet the heroine, so it was integral to th eplot, but still a distraction.

The other usual formulas of Crusie are present - snarky best friend (this time a gay man, rare in romance), forlorn dog, tight knit circle of small town people. I'm assuming this was written for one of the category suspense lines., but it's just one of those books that I think it could have been so much better with some careful pruning and losing the suspense.
