This one was a lot of fun to read! I loved the characters, and even though it was a bit predicatable, getting to the ending was so much fun I didn't mind at all.

Though I'm normally a paranormal romance reader Crusie came highly recommended for her characters' witty banter. There was some in [b:Getting Rid of Bradley|33734|Getting Rid of Bradley|Jennifer Crusie|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1168462749s/33734.jpg|2025892], but none here.

Not only was the conversation dull, but sometimes it made no sense. Charlie says he's going to miss someone's jokes when I can't remember a single punchline being delivered. Allie reminds Charlie not to be controversial, then gets into a long discussion about sex on air with few reservations. It didn't add up.

Nor did the hijinx at the radio station. I was taken out of the story multiple times when I asked myself, would that really happen? Are studios really set up that way? Why is the news on a cassette, wouldn't someone be reading that live? And so on.

For leaving me frustrated, sometimes confused, and not entertained, one star.

Quick read, amusing and a bit entertaining, and yet forgettable.

Dated to the point of being slightly off-putting. Probably would have been cute in 1995, but the charm is faded in 2017.

This is one of my go-to books for fun and humor. I've read this one at least 4 or 5 times since purchasing it. The dinner scene in the beginning always has me laughing out loud!

I read this book for my personal "Contemporary February" challenge, and I'm really glad I did. This book is not for you to think too hard. Don't expect to be motivated to go out and change the world. And you won't have these words resonate with you like you've just read the worlds best fiction. No. This is simply a lovey-dovey kind of book that makes you giggle, blush and just overall feel good. And that's just one thing I love about contemporary books!
When we meet Allie she's at the top of her radio producing career, until her skeezy boyfriend, Mark, dumps her, without any real reason why. And with that, she is no longer producing his very successful show and is given a new guy at a new time. This is not what Allie wanted to hear, but with her head held high, she perseveres.
But of course, as her luck has it, she runs into Charlie in the most unfortunate and kind of embarrassing way. Luckily Charlie is a good guy and takes this meeting in stride, going along with Allie's shenanigans and despising Mark upon meeting him. Just as Allie wants. And what else does she want but a one-night stand to help her get over Mark.
When you're producing a late-night show for the guy who happens to be staying with you and you may have had a fabulous one-night stand with...things are not going to be easy.
And so, the fun ensues!
I loved how serious, funny and real Charlie was. The way Allie describes him, didn't make him seem physically attractive to me per se, but it made him no less interesting and yummy in general. The love scenes in this book are sweet and hot without being overly descriptive! I never felt like I had to hide in a room alone because of it, but it definitely wasn't something I'd read aloud around kids. ^_^"
The way Mark is was...hilarious, he was a pathetic guy with nothing but his career in mind and the childish games he played kept me laughing.
This is definitely a quick and fun read that I thoroughly enjoyed. I will be checking out more of Jennifer Crusie's work, especially her newer books.

I had a blast reading this, I love Jennifer Crusie and the way she writes, absolutely tickled by the fact my copy was published by Mills and Boon, I am indeed turning into my grandmother, my only complaint was that it wasn’t longer. I want to sit with these characters and their love for a while!!

Yes, I've been reading beach reading lately. My life is stressful right now. This one is cute and fun and the writing was better than I would have expected. I'd read another by her.

Jennifer Crusie is just so good at creating warm, engaging characters ! This was a fast, sweet story.

Allie is a radio producer at the top of her game. She's very competent and passionate about her career, and in fact, she's indispensable to her small town radio station and produces the top star, Mark's, show (he also happens to be her ex). Up until the day he fires her and she is forced to take on newcomer Charlie's show, at the lousy timeslot from 10 pm to 2 am. Not to worry, Allie can make him a star, whether he wants it or not! Charlie is an amiable, funny chap with the cliché fear of commitment and success. He'd rather drift from job to job every few months. But his father has asked him to investigate some shady goings on at a friend's radio station, using a job as a radio DJ as a cover. Charlie agrees to give it a try, but he is adamant that in 6 weeks when his time is up, he'll be gone.
Then Allie tries to pick Charlie up at a bar to cover her embarrassment from Mark after he fired her, and sparks fly with Charlie.

As I'm beginning to be accustomed to with Crusie, the characters are just great. I love how her female characters always have a calm, secure strength to them, they are not weak, neurotic wimps as can sometimes be the case in other books. Her male characters tend to be sturdy guys with the shaggy hair thing going on, and easy going, witty personalities. What's not to love :)
She also writes quirky, warm little communities of secondary characters with a lot of skill, I always have a few I get attached to. In this book the radio station atmosphere was particularly well rendered, I don't know whether it was lifelike but it definitely felt like its own little world and I loved getting a glimpse into it, it was one of the strengths of the book. I also like that there is often a dog around, definitely appeals to me as a dog person.

This book had its funny moments, but it wasn't as funny as some of her previous ones (I'd say the funniest so far were Getting Rid of Bradley, and Strange Bedpersons). The plot also wasn't as strong, it felt more like we were just following the lives of these characters, not following a definite, tightly paced storyline somehow. I don't know if that makes any sense, it was just a feeling I got. Still, in a way that was a good thing as it meant the book was really not stressful for me, it was relaxing, just following these great characters in a fun setting and seeing how things went. Not boring in the least, it's just a book I'd pick for a different mood than a tight, breathlessly paced mystery for example, which is funny because it's quite a contrast to What the Lady Wants which I read just before.

Not as memorable as some of her other books, but still a great, entertaining read. This is good quality romance :)
