Ford Madox Ford is a skilled writer. Which makes the terrible boredom of this book even more painful to me. He could have written a novel about something that mattered. Instead he wrote The Good Soldier.
He is like Henry James with an ironic smile, saucier gossip, and less personal love for his characters.
