“We cannot simply view liberation as the absence of oppression, but as an entirely new reality that we can bring forth together”

(3.5) This was an interesting read! some of the parts I liked whilst others were a little slow, but that just comes down to what information I knew beforehand. Towards the end I did start to get annoyed about how us-centric the book was, but then again the author is from there so I don’t know if that’s a fair criticism.  I guess I just wish it had been more general and less us-specific cause then I think it would appeal to me more.

I really enjoy Blair Imani’s work because it’s short, informative and easy to comprehend. That unique style carries over into this book. It’s a great primer for more intensive works and it’s a relatively quick read. The information is heavily researched, but not weighed down by needlessly complicated writing. Overall, I thought it was a great read and while a lot of the material was familiar, I learned some new pieces of information.
