This book really had me in the first half and lost me in the last bit. Not because the story wasn’t any less extraordinary, but because it felt like the descriptions or the… feeling of the circumstances wasn’t as well described. I also wanted to know how she got her start speaking to people. Who did she contact? What did she begin saying? It felt like everything was kind of skimmed over in the end when I wanted more details.

All in all, quite the inspiring read about what it truly means to be Christlike and love your enemies (oof!). There were some real moments that caused me to look inward at my own faith and how I live it. God really can make beauty from tragedy.

Everyone needs to read this book.

Corrie’s family were amazing & so very faithful to God. Her time as the leader of the underground, her time in prison & the concentration camp, & afterward were filled with wonderful miracles. Her honesty in this book & how she struggled with her faith brings humanity to a story that shows the beautiful grace, love, & power of God.

Why have I never actually read this book before? Probably because God knew that I needed to read it now when He’s been working on me long enough to be humble enough to hear its beauty. If I had read it as a teenager I would have been prideful about reading a “Christian classic” and completely missed the glory of God in it.

Right after I read this book I gave it a 4 (I seldom give 5s)but I had to go back and give it that 5 star when I realized that this is a book that stays with you and is something everyone should read.
