Personally I did not feel this book connected with me in a way that poetry usually does. Maybe it was the style or the content, I’m not to sure. I just know it wasn’t for me. There were a few poems, I think maybe 6, that really stuck out to me out of the WHOLE collection. Read at your own risk, it’s poetry.

Poetry is subjective. Not my place to fault or judge someone for sharing their truth. Let her words be her own judge, jury, and executioner.

I randomly stumbled across Pretty Boys Are Poisonous while looking for a new poetry book, and I’m honestly glad I did. I wasn’t expecting this from Megan Fox, but at the same time, it feels so in line with who she is and how she carries herself. There are so many references to spirituality, the deep, and the dark, but what really stands out is her honesty.
This collection delves into her experiences from an abusive relationship (and no, she doesn’t name anyone, so don’t expect her to be calling anyone out). Her pain is tangible but also hollow in some ways. It’s the kind that transfers to the reader—but could also miss certain audiences. The poems are reflective enough, especially if you’ve ever experienced a toxic love or a relationship that felt overwhelming.
What I also enjoyed were the little moments of dark humor and how simple yet effective the poetry is. The content is heavy to some degree, but it’s relatable and easy to process. Sometimes poetry can veer into that pretentious zone where you lose the message, but this collection stays on the surface level. It’s not overly intricate with its language.
If you’re looking for a quick poetry collection, I’d recommend this one—especially if you’ve gone through something similar or even just survived a bad breakup. It’s a short read with a great cover.
