I wanted to love it, and enjoyed the world building to an extent. The second half of the book didn't do it for me.

I'm also biased because I can't stand born sexy yesterday being casually thrown in.

Would love another book set in this world that goes further into the details, policies, and life, and doesn't focus on... What it does in the end.

By far the darkest and most disturbing read for me ever. That being said it was incredibly interesting to entertain the idea of how quickly humans could descend into a truly horrible society. The ending was a bit disappointing and though I don’t care to read 100 pages more of detailed cannibalism and more, I would have cared to have more story development. I would still recommend to those who aren’t sensitive to the trigger warnings. I found it to be a difficult read myself but am glad to have read it still.

I don’t think I liked this. The second half definitely moved quicker than the first which I appreciated

Very disturbing book it's simple by stander but I thought it would be a revolution or something but it wasn't

so this is a true three star read for me - i found it to be a bit overhyped for what it was; HOWEVER…the ending had my jaw on the floor and for that i give an extra star

What a fucking doozy!!! Wild that I just read the most subtle dystopian novel dealing with the commodification of humans and then stumbled right into this one which was graphically detailed and shouting in your face the whole time. It was really good writing though, particularly once you get into the second half where there’s less body horror for the sake of setting the stakes.

I love that the intention was not for the main character to grow in any positive way and that, actually, he just got worse as the novel progressed! I think this is a key difference between this book and others that I’ve critiqued for their violent misogyny and sexism. Our MC does not unpack literally any of the systems of power that exist as he goes. His perspective evolves, but not in a good direction lmao. And that makes that makes this a phenomenal book for people to unpack and investigate what’s going on - the author actively leaves it to us to make judgments about how we see the characters and their decisions. Hopefully that makes sense

Beginning was fantastic and super suspenseful, couldn’t put the book down but the ending is kind of abrupt and predictable, a bit disappointing at the end… that’s why I couldn’t give 4 stars.
