I don’t know how to feel about this. Maybe bc I did not quite understand what was happening. The ending threw me off and I see there is next books but I almost don’t want to read them after the way this book ended. It was intriguing and I kept reading to figure out just what was going on. But it was almost too complex to enjoy in the end.
4.5 - this book was fantastic! it reminded me a lot of The Secret History but instead of a classical theme, it had this theme of metaphysics and a light touch of fantasy. i also appreciated how talented the authors are- both in describing the everyday aspects of life and the more bizarre parts of Sasha’s journey
to anyone who describes this book as “dark academia”, “harry potter written by Kafka” (an insult to kafka) or “a book about a magic school”… have we read the same book??? hello? anyway reducing Vita Nostra to any of the above is a crime. just read it its wild

I really liked It, as a dark academia book it's a Little different and the academia part of It becomes almost part of the characters! Strange but original and quite misterious.

Beginning of this book was absolutely terrifying but part two wasn't scary at all and was much more fantastical. I think what happened right at the end is probably the max level of incomprehensibility that I am willing to accept from a book and I hope that the next book doesn't continue with that but instead goes back into the "you can kind of understand what's going on but only just barely". I think this would be a great novel to re-read, there is so much going on.
What a strange book. Theoretically about a young woman going to a kind of magical school, but not really about that at all.
Baffling, I can't really explain the draw of this book. But I was mesmerized from start to finish.
I thought this would be a quick 2-3 day read, but I was gravely mistaken. The book takes you on a rather unusual coming of age story at the end of which you are not quite sure what happened.
There are some very nice Eastern European subtle and not so subtle cultural themes woven in the story which made it particularly enjoyable.
When I picked it up I expected a stand alone, but it appears there are further books to read and I am definitely on board to come back some day.
