The smut didn’t start until 84% of the way through which, considering I was under the impression this was more smut than romance (my bad), was disappointing. I could see why it was set up that way but it was a bit disappointing. The ending had me enraptured though and I’m excited to see what happens in book 2.

I can't believe I'm going to admit this... I loved the book and fell in love with AN ALIEN SPIDER! But at the same time, it's normal since Ketahn is more human than many humans in real life and love interests in other books of different genres. It may also be because I have been introduced to the world of monster romance in the last year and have become an ardent fan of the genre. In conclusion, excellent storytelling is accompanied by an original and creative world, a perfect amount of spice at the right moments and lovable characters with ideal chemistry.

This is a fantastic story belonging to the alien/monster romance genre so be warned people - the main protagonist is truly alien. None of that winged dragon shifter nonsense.

What I loved most about this story was the slow pace of the book. The relationship is not rushed, Ivy and Ketahn are allowed time to get used to each other’s differences, to learn each other’s language and develop a strong bond which allows them to look beyond the alien features and to see the person within. Also the glimpses that we were shown of the matriarchal society of Ketahn’s race, the vrix, added depth and additional tension to the story.

The only reason why I haven’t given it full 5 stars is the open ending which is picked up immediately in Book 2, but I’m generally not a fan of cliff-hangers.

Apart from that - a great book in the genre.

This is book 1 in this series.

And I think this book gives you a lot of world building and background for Ketahn and Ivy. So the start of the book may feel a little slow simply because the romance is minimum.

I very much enjoyed this book, and seeing Ketahn and Ivy’s relationship initially develop.

I think it is prudent to talk about some CW. There are instances in the book where Ketahn is very much being sexually harassed by the queen of his kind. There’s a heavy implication that if anything physical happens between the two, it would be non consensual on Ketahn’s part. And there is a flashback with Ivy about how she loses her virginity, which was coercive and violent. Its not super explicit but it may be triggering.

2/5 on the spicy scale. Yes this is a monster romance and there is sex between a human and a monster. But this book was more tension. Only in the end of the book did Ketahn and Ivy actually start a physical relationship.

I usually love these authors books but I heard this was a trilogy so I waited for all of them to come out. I also didn't mind spoilers so I read reviews and wasn't sure I was going to like it.

The start was rocky for me. I understand trying to world build but it wasn't engaging enough for me to not want to skip ahead to when they meet, but I pushed through. When I did get to the part were they met I did get more interested in what was happening. The relationship was great except for two parts. Which I've seen in a few reviews, he molests her.

The first time is when they hardly understand each other. He's just taken her to rinse of and noticed the outline of her figure. I understand curiosity when he starts to touch her but he starts to fondle her chest and she slaps his hand away and tells him no but he holds her arms out away from her and does it anyway along with pulling off her clothes. She's still telling him to stop even while her body is reacting. While I can understand curiosities even with her chest because he didn't seem like he would know that was a private area. I can give him a little give on that however still doesn't take away from the fact that he knows she doesn't like him doing it and does it anyway. The next part is a big no, no he basically touches her down there while she keeps telling him to stop. By this point he has to know he's touching a private area even in his thoughts he knows what he's touch and continues to do so despite her protests. You could argue he was over come by her sent but that doesn't fly with me considering he's always resisted the queen in the past when she tried to over whelm him with her sent. Even if he does seem to like Ivy's sent more. When he finally comes out if his lusty haze he basically tells her he's sorry for frightening her not for the fact that he took advantage of his strength and molested her. It's was mostly the same when it came to the first time they really slept together. He new what he was doing and should know how it would feel to get touched without consent considering the queen does it every time she sees him. You would think he was a little more compassionate about respecting someone's boundaries. Especially when he let's Ivy explore him as a sort of payback for him touching her. When she gets to his area he says no and she backs off. Again I do like the relationship because they do seem to build a good one. However these parts almost messed it up for me.

*End of spoilers*

I did enjoy the book for the most part. Idk if I'll read the rest though. I haven't decided just yet.

Kindle Unlimited. Even if there is an audiobook of this at some point, I think I might recommend at least reading along with it just for the alien language bits.

Well I did it. I read the spider alien romance book, despite my absolutely debilitating fear of spiders. There were definitely some bits that triggered my arachnophobia, but overall it wasn't actually that bad. Why?

Because the plot absolutely swept me up. I devoured this book. From the moment Ketahn finds Ivy I could not put it down. I loved the intrigue of court politics, the background mystery of what brought Ivy to the planet, the slow reveal on both of their pasts and the (relatively, for the Alien Romance genre) slowburn romance.

Do not pick this up expecting insta-smut. You will be VERY disappointed. While there are some steamy moments, it takes time for the characters to get to know each other and work on the barriers that stand between them. This is a trilogy, and the authors take their time setting everything up. But if you're down for some sci-fi alien romance and you're cool with the alien being more monstrous, don't skip this one.

That said, beware for here there be dub-con, along with some minor but on-page outright assault. More details behind the spoiler in Content Warnings. If that will ruin your day, maybe check out some of Tiffany Roberts' other books.

As for me though I can't wait to freak out all my friends when they see this one on my bookshelf.
