I liked this last book but after waiting two years for it, I had to reread entire series to remember it all. The author should have ended this after book two. Book one was great, book two good, but book three it fell apart a little and this one had a different villain . She dragged this two more books unnecessarily.

Solid 4 stars. This book was too much action.. too much going on.. not enough Vlad and Leila time! There was so much packed into one book.. and the ending and epilogue felted rushed for this to be their last book!
I feel like it was more a prequel to Ian's book... which isn't all that bad.. because throughout the entire series, I've grown to like him and am excited for him and Veritas to have a story! Yes!
So, Maximus is still a character and im still unsure where that will go.. and Mircea too.. there's so many things left unsaid and not wrapped up for this to be the end. Anyone feeling a Gretchen/Maximus vibe? Idk.. maybe we'll see.

It is a sad day when a beloved character from a main series just cannot carry a spin off series. I don’t really blame Vlad, he probably would have done okay in a one book spin off like Spade and Mencheres, I really enjoyed the first book of his series, but this was four books long and there just isn’t a lot of redeeming qualities to the Impaler that I wanted to hang out for extra books.
Also I really struggle with Leila, one minute it seems like I’m going to start to like her but then her stupid inner voice speaks up and I get another glimpse at just how insecure and hypocritical she is. There is a point in this book that she is a little mad at Vlad for leaving her out of something and going off to do ‘a job’ without her. But then she green eyes her sister and does a version of the exact same thing to her. Plus she plans on hiding things from her husband Vlad, since she knows he would sacrifice anyone she loves if it meant saving her. The entire I’d kill anyone in the world for you thing was a bit much.

Thank goodness for Ian in this book. Ian was delightfully sinful and funny and charming and disrespectful and some many other great things. He might play the insipid whore but that is all show and we get to see a little bit of a deeper side to him as well. I loved it, but to be honest I felt like this entire story really was just there to set up a spin-off book for Ian and maybe Gretchen (even though I’m not excited about that at all) and not much else. Veritas also had some good moments and I hear she is Ian’s future love interest. I can’t wait to see how those two are going to mix.
At the end of this I didn’t like Vlad much, Leila can go suck a big one I’m truly pissed at her character in this book, from the way she let Vlad treat her to the way she treated everyone else around her I was not impressed. Also the end, well there really wasn’t a great wrap up there either.
This should have been a 1-2 book spin off and it would have saved me the reader two very painfully read books. Maybe it is just time to shut down the Night Huntress novels and put this baby to rest.

While I do have some (not so) minor grievances, overall, I'm pleased with the end of this series.
I can't get into said grievances without major spoilers, so I'll leave it at that.
Vlad and Leila have had incredible chemistry since Book 1 and I'm glad the author didn't do them wrong, especially after everything that happened on Book 3.
It comes as no surprise that the best part of this book was Ian, as Frost set us up for Shades of Wicked (coming October 30th) and I'm very very excited for his story to truly begin - there's so much we still don't know about Ian!

2.5 stars tbh? I'm too tired to explain all the problems I had with this one, but there were definitely quite a few.

I thought I reviewed this one already but I guess I didn’t I just enjoyed this series and the action in it. It was twisty and exciting. I have one complaint and that is getting the backstory in the fourth book, I get that this is a series but it's really not a standalone series so why do we constantly have to get the backstory?
There were some sad moments and a lot of happy triumphs that make it so worth it. Vlad and Leila are second favorites of mine Cat and Bones just can’t be beaten.
I am glad about this type of spin-off we got to see our old friends.
I loved the narration then again I am a fan of Tavia so I can’t complain.
