There are definitely flaws in this book: Basic dialogue, overly plucky protagonists, characters with little to no depth. I choose to ignore all of these. If you just let yourself have fun with this one, you'll have a great time. It had me kicking my feet over and over again.

Favourite Quote:
"Those people gave in to their pain because they couldn’t find purpose—their torture was meaningless, and when you can’t find reason in life, you tend to give up on it."

I don’t think this is the book Sanderson wanted to write, but it was the book he needed to write.

The first 1/3rd of the book was difficult for me to push through, the story seemed to drag and it seemed way too steeped in politics/religion. However, I am so glad I pushed through because the rest of the story was excellent. I can see how this could be one of Sanderson’s first works as he sets up a great high fantasy novel but it comes on a bit too “thick”.
I loved the magic system and the mystery surrounding it. Sanderson also always can create characters that I grow to love and respect, even the villains on occasion. This is one of my favorite love stories done by Sanderson with Tress being a close second.
