If you're looking for a cohesive story that resolves to a clear conclusion, this is not the book for you. I can see how it was subversive for its time but I found little that I could relate to. I've known plenty of addicts and they did not act like the people in Naked Lunch, thank goodness.

bought this five billion years ago to impress a toxic friend who i later stopped talking to. i'll allow this fact and my rating to speak in lieu of a review

Naked Lunch is definitely a novel where its reputation surpasses the actual content. There is no one to relate to, which is the point, I get it, but that means the horrifying scenes quickly loose their impact. A book with virtually no plot and no characters needs genuis writing. Is it there? Well, I wouldn't say so, but it does have a certain quality to it. Although the real page turners in this edition are the additions wherein Burroughs talks about his own addiction and his stance on drugs and their cure.
