It feels kinda criminal to give this such a low rating but I really struggled to get through this one. There were so many key elements (namely surrealism, LGBTQ+ commentary, and raw depictions of addiction) that I know have had an influence on some of my favorite pieces of media and I absolutely recognize the relevance and importance of this book. Not sure if it was the lack of narrative or the writing style but this unfortunately just wasn’t for me. I still want to try and read Junky to see if Burroughs’ narrative writing style is more my speed.
Tldr: I appreciate this book for what it is and what it stands for, it just didn’t do it for me. :(

Colourful and weird adventures. Sometimes humorous and often gross.
Quite possibly the longest Aristocrats joke ever?

Oof! The kind of read you need a debrief session after, or perhaps therapy or a Zen retreat, depending on your disposition. I would "Recommend" this as an excellent exploration of addiction, psychosis, mid-20th-century subculture – but with a huge disclaimer that it goes to some completely depraved places. Burroughs is a fearless explorer and poet, though, so if your psychic scuba gear is up for it, it's worth it.

Before we begin, here’s my humble attempt to out-Burroughs Burroughs.
(I regret nothing.)
If this made you gag, cum, sweat or laugh — congratulations. You’ve now had more fun than me reading the actual book.
If you’ve never read the book and enjoyed my humble parody — go ahead and read it.
My parody kinda sucks because it doesn’t have body horror, p**ophilia/z**philia, nor people that have anuses that speak and develop teeth, but it more or less represents the book: jumbled garbage being presented as high lQ level literature.
One star for effort. Zero stars for coherence. Infinite stars for making me write this mess.
La buena, gonorreas.

Patient #1003/99: Journal Entry (confiscated during heroin-fueled episode).
Viscous thoughts pondering the purple lead Ritalin sunset sky filled with heroin induced images of vultures that are hungry for my flesh.
The testicles getting marinated in the sauce of my genes and the glands expand with blood with each and every pumping motion that overtly forces the static of my putrid anxious lungs to expulse carbon monoxide mixed with aromas of odor and jissom. The small communist rage eaten red ant of lust sending tickles down my legs, prickling the space of reality and time. The rosebud of my salivated lips connects with rosebud of the anus of the God, — Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son — the cat’s mustache scratching the wet scrotum, his sandpaper tongue dilating the cavity that begs the inevitable insertion.
The sword of flesh and veins is penetrating the dark matter, causing another historical tragedy with fireworks and energy: the blackness is filled by new milky way, hot spurs decore his collarbone with exquisite white pearl necklace I shot straight out of my throbbing, lubricated and certainly erect phallus.
Each droplet of white viscous material is a star. Each droplet is a thought.
Waves clashing against the pebbles, making them dance like a Colombian drug addict who just got his hit of sacol, the sounds of cumbia hyperventilating his fried mind.
